FAQ
How do I Register?
1 – Register by clicking the “Register Now” button.
2 – If you have an account login and sign up.
3 – If you don’t have an account, just register for the tournament and it will automatically make an account for you.
4 – Make sure to keep your weight class up to date. (You must change your weight by no later than Friday, March 31, 2023 by 11:59pm PST).
4 – If you have any difficulty registering, please contact info.mataleao@gmail.com and they will get back to you ASAP.
When is the last day to register?
– Friday, March 31, 2023 by 11:59pm PST. We WILL NOT have registration after Friday, March 31, 2023 by 11:59pm PST. or during the tournament
– If we reach our maximum capacity of competitors, we may have to close registrations prior to final deadline. Please do not wait for the last minute to sign-up for our event. Make sure do register early at www.charlesgracie.com/tournaments
Do we weigh in with GI ON?
-Yes, you will weigh in with your GI ON. In the weight list the “GI” weight is already added, so make sure the athletes are in the correct division. Make sure to check your weight with your GI ON before completing your tournament registration.
How do I change my weight for the tournament?
– The only way to change your weight for the tournament after you are registered is by sending an email to info.mataleao@gmail.com (You must change your weight by no later than Friday, March 31, 2023 by 11:59pm PST.) We can only accept changes for weight classes via email.
When is the last day to change weight?
– You must change your weight by no later than Friday, March 31, 2023 by 11:59pm PST. To change your weight class just send an email to info.mataleao@gmail.com
Is there a weight allowance?
– Yes;
– YOUTH DIVISIONS: We allow Youth competitors to be within 0.5 pounds of their weight class. For example, in the Youth Division #6 (63.1lbs. – 70lbs.) we accept up to 70.5 pounds.
– ADULTS & MASTERS DIVISIONS: We allow Adults and Masters competitors to be within 0.9 pounds of their weight class. For example, in the Adult Middle weight division (154.6lbs. – 168.0lbs.) we accept up to 168.9 pounds.
What if I don’t make weight?
– Any athlete that is over their registered weight will automatically be disqualified. Athletes must make weight to compete at the event. If you think might not be able to make weight, it is smarter for you to move up one weight class. To change your weight class just send an email to info.mataleao@gmail.com
– You have until Friday, March 31, 2023 by 11:59pm PST to change your weight class. Please note: We can only accept changes for weight classes via email at info.mataleao@gmail.com
When can I weigh in?
– The day of the tournament. Weigh-ins will be conducted WITH THE GI ON one hour before the competitor’s weight division starts.
What is the CUTOFF DATE for the Novice Division?
– To qualify for the “Novice Division” youth, juvenile and adults MUST have no more than SIX MONTHS of Jiu-Jitsu experience. The cutoff date for having started training Jiu-Jitsu is October 15, 2022. NO EXCEPTIONS!
Does CGJJT use advantage points?
– We do not use advantage points. If the score ends tied the fight goes to Sudden Death overtime.
CGJJT use Sudden Death?
– Yes, we use sudden death overtime only in juvenile and adult divisions. If the juvenile or adult match ends in a tie, the match will go to Sudden Death overtime.
Sudden Death overtime is 2 minutes for White, Blue, and Purple Belts, and 3 minutes for Brown and Black Belts.
– If no score is made by either fighter during the Sudden Death Overtime, then the referee will determine and declare the winner of the match.
– If youth division matches end in a tie, then the referee will determine and declare the winner of the match.
Are spectators allowed?
– Yes, spectators may purchase tickets only at the door.
How much are spectator admission tickets?
– Children 5 years old and under: Free Admission.
– Children and Adults: 6 years and older: Admission Tickets $10.00
– Children (competitors) get one parent for free as a spectator.
– Coaches must be registered in order to qualify for a free admission into the tournament venue.
– Doors open at 8:00am for athletes and spectators.
We will be selling spectator admission tickets at the door on the day of the event. If at any time we reach current guidelines for capacity we will stop selling spectators tickets. Children (competitors) get one parent for free as a spectator
How early should I arrive at the tournament?
– Be at least one hour early before your division starts.
When will I receive my medal?
– When the athlete’s bracket finishes the winners (1st, 2nd and 3rd places) will go directly to the podium.
Can athletes wear Rash Guard or T-Shirts underneath the GI?
– All male athletes are NOT allowed to wear Rash Guard or T-Shirts underneath the GI. Only female athletes can wear Rash Guard, T-Shirts or Sports Bra underneath the GI.
Is a competitors list or brackets available?
– No, we don’t release competitors list or brackets.

What if my child doesn’t have a match?
If your child doesn’t have a match, we give four options:
1 – Move up a weight class. (With parental permission)
2 – Move up an age division. (With parental permission)
3 – Credit to another tournament.
4 – Refund for that tournament.
The competitor has until Friday, March 31, 2023 by 11:59pm PST. to decide what they prefer to do. We will contact you directly if it is necessary.
Are parents allowed in the competition area?
– No one is allowed in the competition area except staff members, competitors and coaches. Parents and other spectators can watch all the matches from the bleachers.
Does CGJJT combine brackets for youth ?
– We never combine male and female.
– With parental permission we will combine belts within the same belt color. For example, a Gray Belt with White Strip may be placed in the Gray Belt Division.
* SCHEDULE INFO:
– Registration closes on Friday, March 31, 2023 by 11:59pm PST. 12 days before the tournament.
– Last day to make any changes after you register is Friday, March 31, 2023 by 11:59pm PST.
* TOURNAMENT REFUND INFO:
– The registration fee is Non-Refundable and Non-Transferable.
– Exemption: Athletes who are alone in their bracket are eligible to receive a full refund of the registration fee or if the athlete contacts cgtournaments@charlesgracie.com and requests to withdraw their name from the competition prior to the end of the appointed event registration final which is, riday, March 31, 2023 by 11:59pm PST.
– If you don’t have someone in your division. You will receive an email with your options; move up a division, credit for a future tournament, or a refund.
– If you are a “no-show” at the tournament, no refund or credit for another tournament will be issued.
– Brackets are subject to change at the tournament on rare occasion.
– If there is a no show in your bracket and you get 1 match, your bracket is considered completed.
– If there is a no show in your bracket and you get 0 matches, you qualify for a refund or tournament credit.

* COACHES AND ACADEMY OWNERS:
The requirements for Academy Owners and Coaches to qualify for free admission into the tournament venue and to enter into our competition area are as follows:
- The academy owner is responsible for registering their coaches.
- The academy owner must request by email at cgtournaments@charlesgracie.com the Coach Registration Form.
- The academy owner must submit an Individual Coach Registration Form with a Headshot Photo for each Coach, in order to receive a coaching pass and qualify for free admission into the tournament venue. Each Academy can have up to 6 (six) coaches depending on how many students enroll in the tournament from that Academy.
– The picture should be a professional headshot, similar to a passport or a driver’s license photo ID. - Must be a Coach and/or Professor at the Academy.
- Must be a Black or Brown Belt coaches at the Academy.
– Purple Belt Assistant Coaches may be allowed only in the YOUTH DIVISIONS. - Please submit your coaches by following the button below:
Number of Coaches Allowed in Competition Area. Each Academy can have up to 6 (six) coaches depending on how many students enroll in the tournament from that Academy.
– 1 to 10 Competitors = 2 Coaches (Including 1 Purple Belt Assistant Coach for Youth Divisions)
– 10 to 20 Competitors = 3 Coaches (Including 1 Purple Belt Assistant Coach for Youth Divisions)
– 21 to 30 Competitors = 4 Coaches (Including 1 Purple Belt Assistant Coach for Youth Divisions)
– 31 to 40 Competitors = 4 Coaches (Plus 1 Purple Belt Assistant Coach for Youth Divisions)
– 41 Competitors and Over = 4 Coaches (Plus 2 Purple Belt Assistant Coach for Youth Divisions)
ALL coaches in competition area are required to display the Coach’s Pass ID at all the times. Only designated coaches seated immediately prior to or during one of their competitors active matches may remain in the competition area. Coaches will be asked to leave immediately after completions of their competitor’s match.
The deadline to send the documents and photo for the coaching passes is Friday, March 31, 2023 by 11:59pm PST. We WILL NOT have registration after Friday, March 31, 2023 by 11:59pm PST. or during the tournament.
HEALTH AND SAFETY PROTOCOLS:
COVID-19 Protocol
As the current situation continues to evolve, we will adhere to Covid-19 policies required by the State and M.U.S.D (Manteca Unified School District) at the time of the tournament. We will notify you of any policy changes prior to event.
- We remain committed to competitor safety and the following protocols will be in place to ensure a safe competition environment for all participants and spectators:
- Upon arrival, competitors and spectators will be required to have their temperature taken. Competitors and spectators with a temperature at or above 100.4 degrees will not be allowed to enter the event.
- Once the temperature screening is passed, competitors and spectators will be required to go through a symptom screening questionnaire
- Competitors will have a hand and foot sanitation station that will be required before they can enter the mat area.
- Masks will be optional for competitors and spectators. Competitors and Spectators are required to bring their own masks.
