The Fourth Annual Charles Gracie
Invitational Jiu-Jitsu Tournament 2011 was a BIG HIT!
The Charles Gracie Team announces the tournament has set a NEW OFFICIAL PARTICIPANT RECORD WITH OVER 468 COMPETITORS from Men, Women, and Children of all age groups and belt levels. The event ran smoothly with a friendly atmosphere!
I wish at this time to congratulate those of you who completed the most critical part of their training by competing in the Charles Gracie Invitational Tournament at Lathrop High School. If you were among the competitors, whether you won first place, or simply participated, I hope you had a great time being part of the event. This year was the biggest field of participating students ever; and we had by far the largest crowd of spectators in any intra academy tournament. To those who had other obligations and couldn’t compete I feel it was unfortunate for the students that they couldn’t be there. It was a truly wonderful day for everyone, especially those students who had never had an opportunity to be in an event like we had.
It is almost the end of the year and I hope my students have enjoyed their training at the Charles Gracie Academy. I am always proud to have you training with us. It remains my goal, and the goal of all my assistant instructors, to develop our student’s fundamental skills correctly in the academy, and to motivate our students to continue their training on a consistent basis, so that they can reach their full potential.
Regarding our winter break the academy will be closed from Thursday, December 22nd thru Monday, January 2nd. The classes will resume on Tuesday, January 3, 2012.

The Charles Gracie Academies are now located throughout all of greater Northern California and in Nevada. In the Bay Area we have San Francisco, and Daly City. All the way on the other side of the interest spectrum is the competitive world of BJJ tournaments as well as open grappling tournaments. Gracie academy students have excelled in every competition from local events all the way up to the Mundial or World Championship and US National and Regional BJJ and grappling tournaments.
Charles has instructed members of the law enforcement officers, security professionals, U.S. armed forces, air marshals, as well as private citizens. Students come to train and improve their skills at our academy. Jiu-Jitsu, however, is for everyone, regardless of age, gender, body type or physical ability. By using leverage, balance and technique, a weaker individual can defend themselves against stronger, more physically capable opponents.
Finally there is the ultra-competitive world of MMA or Mixed Martial Arts. Jiu-Jitsu is beyond an absolute must for any person who dreams of entering the world of MMA events. Without mastering the techniques of Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu, along with other Martial arts such as karate, judo, and kickboxing, they have no ability to truly and effectively compete in MMA.
We are confident that Jiu-Jitsu will become one of the most cherished and enjoyable aspects of your life regardless of physical condition, age, or past experience. It will give you a confidence, knowledge and body-dexterity and fitness that few people will ever know.
